Advantages of Your Cellphone as a Home Phone:

  • SIGNIFICANT COST SAVINGS
  • You're already paying for your cell phone, now you're getting your home phone without additional landline charges.  Also, you get FREE Long Distance and all your favorite calling features: Caller ID, Call Waiting, Voice Mail, 3-way Calling, and more, all for the same low monthly price.

  • YOUR HOME PHONE FOLLOWS YOU
It's now easier to take your cell phone with you. Instead of being lost in the couch, it sits in same spot until you're ready to leave...fully charged.

  • YOU HAVE A "HOUSE" PHONE
No need to carry your cell phone in your pocket at home. A conventional-acting phone may be a big deal for older relatives or visitors when using the phone either in their home or yours.

  • ONE PHONE NUMBER
You get a home phone without a separate phone number. Callers only use your cell phone number.  Also, you only have one phone book, so if the number is in your phone, it's available wherever you are.

  • YOUR CELL PHONE CAN SIT IN A "HOT SPOT"
Since you're not talking on the actual cell phone you can place it in the location in your home with the best cellular signal. As most adapters use Bluetooth to connect to the cell phone, you can place the unit and the cell phone in the best location for each in your home.

  • YOU HAVE THE SAME FEATURES AT HOME AND AWAY
All the Phone Features like Caller ID, Long Distance and your phone book are all the same wherever you are.

  • KEEP YOUR CELL PHONE AWAY FROM ACCIDENTS
Since your wireless phone isn't next to you, there will be less chance of spills, drops or sticky fingers.

 Disadvantages:
  • ONE CELL PHONE MEANS ONE PHONE LINE
When you connect your cell phone to the adapter, the phones throughout your house are available to anyone to answer. Fortunately, there are multiple-line models of cell phone base units that will tell each home phone unit what number is being called.

  • EMERGENCY CALLS
Calls to 911 may not be routed to the same emergency call center as a landline so you may need to provide a detailed description of your situation and location.

  • SOME PLUG-IN DEVICES WON'T WORK
The cellular Home Phone adapter is a voice-only service and normally isn’t compatible with devices that require audio-based data including fax machines, alarm systems, credit card machines, satellite modems, medical alert systems, or dialup Internet service.

  • CALLER ID LIMITATIONS
Incoming Caller ID on a Home Phone adapter is the same as your cell phone and therefore may not provide as much detail as a landline. You will only see the calling party's phone number unless you have that name stored in your phone's phone book. Caller ID on outgoing calls is limited to the information provided by the wireless carrier which may show Caller Location (based on your number, not your actual location), as "UNAVAILABLE," "WIRELESS CALLER," or no information at all.

  • POWER OUTAGES
Some cellular Home Phone adapters base units come with a backup battery.  During a power outage you can expect that battery to operate the phone for several hours in standby, and fewer of talk time. However, a landline can operate for weeks without power as long as you have a regular wired type telephone. Of course you can disconnect your cell phone and use its own battery.

  • WIRELESS NETWORK RELIABILITY
While wireless cell sites are quite reliable and all have backup power, their networks can get overloaded, especially during an emergency, preventing you from making or receiving calls. Even though your phone adapter may provide a "dial tone", you are not connected to the network until you actually press "Call" and the called number starts to ring.  This overload is usually a temporary situation which may clear up shortly.  Incoming calls that cannot reach your cell phone are normally directed to the phone's own voice mail.

  • EQUIPMENT RELIABILITY
Your Home Phone adapter is guaranteed from defects for an initial period but if it stops working you are responsible for repairs.  That usually means replacing the unit, which may involve a trip to a store or a wait for another unit to be shipped, and some units may no longer be available.

  • LIMITS TO HOW MANY HANDSETS YOU CAN USE
You can plug in multiple wired phones into some of the cellular Home Phone adapters, but more likely you will need to use the cordless handsets supplied with the adapter.
